As yet these are all concept illustrations. I drew them on paper, then colored them digitally. Recently, I've been doing the initial drawing on my Wacom, straight into the computer.
I do this all the time, do the picture before I've written the story for it! Not very efficient, although I could look at any one of these and be inspired to write something around it. I used to love looking at the colored plate illustrations in books when I was a kid. Even if I had no idea what the book was about, I loved looking at illustrations with captions under them. That fires your imagination like nothing else.
My favorite illustrators are Edmund Dulac, Arthur Rackham, John Tenniel, Ronald Searle, Edward Gorey, Bill Peet, and Dr. Suess. I also love Shaun Tan, Gris Grimly, Holly Hobbie, and of course, Sahin Ersoz.

POST-it SKETCHES:
I have lots of sketches that I've doodled on post-it notes or small notepads. You never know when one of these is going to spark an idea for a picture book or short story.
